CONGRATULATIONS!!
FAIR CONTEST WINNER

The Auglaize County Recycling Program awarded the winner of the contest held at the recycling display at the Auglaize County Fair the bicycle that was donated by Bushman’s Bike Shop of East Shelby Road, New Knoxville.  The winning entry was placed by Steve McCullough of Wapakoneta, Ohio.  Steve and his grandson, P. J. Shicora was at the fair together when they placed the winning entry.  They used one of Steve’s ID numbers for the entry that they placed.  Steve has given the bike to P. J. as he was the reason that they entered the contest.  The correct weight of the bale of plastic #2 color bottles was 1136 pounds and their entry was only off by three pounds.   The bicycle was presented by the owner of the bike shop, Mike Bushman and County Commissioners and Board of Directors of the Solid Waste District, Doug Spencer, Ivo Kramer, and John Bergman.  The contest was to guess the correct weight in a bale of #2 color plastic bottles, which is the detergent, dish soap and laundry products type bottles.  The bale was produced at the Auglaize County Recycling Processing Center on River Road, north of St. Marys from bottles collected in the recycling programs throughout the county.  The residents of Auglaize County recycled 5,334,511 pounds of materials through the County Processing facility in 2006.  This is equal to approximately 161 semi-truck loads of material.

The Auglaize County Solid Waste District has recently started recycling shoes at the recycling dropoff locations throughout the County.  They must be brought in fastened in pairs, no rubber type rain boots, and no heals over two inches in height.  All dropoff locations are also able to take cell phones and chargers, and any computer related equipment.

Additional information on recycling products and materials to be recycled can be obtained by contacting the Auglaize County Recycling Program at 419 394-1270.  Recycling events are published each week, giving the dates and times of the recycling activities closest to your home.  Please help Auglaize County to become less dependent on landfill space and recycle today.
